The successor to the Galaxy Tab S4 has reportedly been in the works for quite some time, but as tipster Evan Blass revealed earlier today, it won’t be called the Galaxy Tab S5. Instead, Samsung’s next high-end tablet will be marketed as the Galaxy Tab S6 and, thanks to SamMobile, we now know what it’ll look like.

Much like the Galaxy Tab S5e that Samsung introduced earlier this year, the upcoming Galaxy Tab S6 is set to feature a rear carved out of a single piece of aluminum. The rather noticeable antenna bands along the top and bottom will also be making a return alongside a set of speakers tuned by AKG. Unlike any Samsung tablet before it, though, there will be multiple cameras on the rear.

Positioned vertically in the top-left corner, the elongated module is expected to house one primary sensor and a secondary time-of-flight camera. The latter should help with real-time 3D tracking and could be useful when it comes to measuring distances on the tablet or improving the experience of AR-focused apps.

Another rather unique feature on the rear comes in the form of a long cutout that includes a darkened portion along the bottom. While not yet confirmed, the area could potentially be used to wirelessly charge Samsung’s S Pen with magnets embedded beneath helping keep the stylus in place. 

Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 release date and specs

In the past, Samsung has often opted for older processors inside its high-end tablets in a bid to keep costs down. The Galaxy Tab S4, for example, featured the Snapdragon 835 while the Tab S3 boasted Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820. As part of an effort to keep things more competitive this year, however, the Galaxy Tab S6 looks set to arrive equipped with the Snapdragon 855 rather than the older Snapdragon 845 as previously expected.

Accompanying the new top-of-the-range processor should be a minimum of 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Samsung has previously included 64GB of storage as standard but sources suggest the South Korean brand is skipping the option this year. On a related note, more expensive models with up to 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage are certainly a possibility.

As you’d expect from a 2019 tablet, the Galaxy Tab S6 looks set to ship with Android 9 Pie straight out of the box alongside Samsung’s own One UI interface. An update to Android 10 Q is to be expected too, although the company’s typical update timeline suggests it won’t roll out until early 2020. 

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 is expected to debut at Unpacked on August 7th alongside the Galaxy Note 10 series. The high-end tablet should be available to buy later that month in both Wi-Fi only and LTE models. Regarding color options, information suggests Samsung will sell its device in Grey, Blue, and Brown. Also, a keyboard cover accessory is to be expected as an optional purchase.
