OnePlus today announced the OnePlus 7T, which features a 90 Hz display and an improved triple-lens camera system.

And those are interesting items to highlight, since the 90 Hz display on the OnePlus 7 Pro, which wasn’t offered on the lower-end OnePlus 7, was one of that phone’s best features. Conversely, the triple-lens camera system on the OnePlus 7 Pro was one of that phone’s worst features. So getting that right this time around is key.

“Overall, pictures taken with the OnePlus 7 Pro are washed out and lacking the deep colors and contrasts that most smartphone users expect here in 2019,” I noted in my review. “The telephoto lens is a huge disappointment. It ostensibly offers 3x optical zoom capabilities, but the quality of its shots are never better than what’s possible with digital zoom; they’re blurry and have that weird watercolor-like patchy look that has always dogged digital zoom on smartphone cameras.”

It won’t be possible to rate the “improved” triple-lens camera system in the new phone, but I hope to review it soon. But according to the firm, it provides a 48 MP main lens, 2X lossless zoom, and an ultra-wide lens with a 117-degree field of view. That sounds exactly like the previous system, so the improvements, if any, have to come from the software.

The display appears to be identical to that of the OnePlus 7 Pro, with HDR10+ support. And OnePlus continues to push its super-fast charging, with the OnePlus 7T providing a 70 percent charge in 30 minutes. And its gaming prowess, thanks in this case to the inclusion of the new Snapdragon 855+, an improvement over the Snapdragon 850 on its predecessor. It also features 8 GB of RAM.

It will come with Android 10 and will be on T-Mobile exclusively in the US when it ships in October for $599 on OnePlus.com.
